Hon. Dennis J. Landín (Ret.) began his legal career in 1980 as an attorney for the Legal Aid Foundation of Long Beach, providing help to low-income individuals in housing, consumer, and immigration matters. In 1982, he joined the Federal Public Defender’s Office for the Central District of California and handled every type of federal criminal case at both the trial and appellate level. In 1992, he was named Chief Deputy and was responsible for the training and supervision of 50 attorneys while still trying his own cases. In 2002, Judge Landín was appointed to the Los Angeles Superior Court by Governor Gray Davis and spent several years conducting felony criminal trials. After presiding over 45 homicide trials, he decided to move to a civil assignment, starting out in the PI Hub before moving to an Independent Calendar Court at the Mosk Courthouse in downtown Los Angeles. He was later assigned to the Mandatory Settlement Conference program at the Spring Street Courthouse. He has also served as an Associate Justice Pro Tem for the California Court of Appeal, Second Appellate District.

He recently completed a lengthy series of mediations involving infant deaths related to a product sold by a major toy manufacturer.
Judge Landín received his B.A. in political science from Occidental College in 1977 and earned his J.D. from UCLA Law School in 1980.
